ASDA Bag Packing

£1300!

Yesterday a massive £1300 was collected  at the ASDA bag packing event. Every isle end was occupied by and the cubs were all on top form. ASDA customers were very genorous. A superb start to the fundraising – a hard days work for the cubs but it’s been well worth it.

Sponsored walk

Akela and I have been discussing the idea of a sponsored walk to raise money for the road to cubjam. Akela came up with the idea of walking from Grove Road to Thornthwaite. I think it’s a great idea. The worry is that it’s a bit of a distance – about 11 miles.

I tried out the walk last Sunday – It’s a gorgeous walk. Harrogate, Killinghall, Hampsthwaite, Birstwith, Darley onto Thornthwaite. It takes in some lovely sections of The Nidderdale Way and an interesting section of The Dacre Walls Walk. From a ‘risk assessment’ perspective, It’s all level walking, no tricky or technical bits, and bar a couple of short road sections, it’s all on public right of way, off road paths and bridal ways.

I think the idea would be an early set off, lunch en route (probably near Birstwith?) then pick up from Thornthwaite.

Probably be looking for several volunteers. I guess the classic ‘so much a mile’ sponsorship form could be drafted and photocopied without too much problem..

A date has not been set for this event yet but a possible for February.

Who’s up for it?

In need of a van…

Akela sent this in:

“Do you know anyone who owns a large van?
We need a Luton-type van to take gear down on 23rd and colect it on 29th.
If you know anyone who can help or who has connections with a van rental company let us know.
We will also need a volunteer to drive the van on the 2 days. As this will be a return journey it may need 2 drivers for both days.”

IDEA! Cubs disco

I had the idea of having a cubs disco. I’ve asked a friend of mine who runs a PA company if I we could borrow some speakers, and lights etc. Ideally it’d be at Grove Road Hall. What say ye? We could have a buffet – parents to contribute a plate of snacks. each cub gets (say) 5 tickets to sell to friends at school for £2 each – if they sell all 5 they get in free themselves!

This idea needs;

  • Tickets printing (I could take care of this bit)
  • A DJ
  • A load of cakes and snacks making and baking
  • Anything else?

Welcome!

I figured that if we’re going to get some fund-raising off the ground, a good place to start would be setting up one of these – a wordpress blog. It’s basically a website that lets a group of people share ideas, thoughts, dates and actions etc. A central place to get things off the ground. A place where we can let each other know about what’s happening and when.

This weblog’ll grow and change as the project gets underway -

Let’s get things started then!

just leave a comment – perhaps your idea or suggestion – you don’t have to register to do that – just leave your first name and perhaps who’s parent you are for reference – like I’ve done – ‘Matt – Felix’s dad’)

Anyway – I don’t half waffle on sometimes. Without further ado – get typing! (if the comments box isn’t showing, click the comments link below.. )
